Ukyo Police Station, Wakasa Stadium Kyoto, Mount Atago … If you are a local, you may think of those places when you are asked about Ukyo-ku. Ukyo-ku may not be familiar to you, but it is actually the largest of the 11 wards of Kyoto City and is also home to many tourist attractions, such as famous sightseeing areas including Uzumasa and Arashiyama. We hope that you now have a better understanding of Ukyo-ku.

Arashiyama, located near our university, where we go every day, is a famous area that has been used as a filming location for many movies. Around the Togetsukyo Bridge, people take pictures and get lost in thought by the Katsura River, making this spot a happy place. Nearby, there are many restaurants, making it an ideal spot for lunch. In addition, there is Bamboo Forest Path, which is also famous as a photogenic spot.

Many temples are located around the Kiyotaki River, which flows through Ukyo-ku. The area is not only a tourist attraction, but also a place rich in history and culture, with stores selling traditional handcrafts using techniques handed down from previous generations. The area is always lively and bustling with visitors, not only from Japan but also from overseas.
